traffic signal boxes
As you follow the walking tour, look out for the painted traffic signal boxes along the route. These were created in partnership with the City of Stonnington Middle Years and Youth Services through the Traffic Signal Box Program. They serve both as tour markers and as a way to engage the wider community with queer history of Stonnington.
Each box was co-designed and co-painted with young creatives from the Stonnington area. Explore their work below.

WEAR A PIECE OF MELBOURNE'S QUEER HISTORY
Queer-ways would not have been possible without the support of the Australian Queer Archives (AQuA) and their ‘A History of LGBTIQ+ Victoria in 100 Places and Objects’ commissioned by Heritage Victoria.
Their continuing work to document queer experience and queer voices ensures that the contributions of LGBTQIA+ Australians are accessible and acknowledged. AQuA relies on the work of volunteers and donations to remain independent. To help honour and preserve the lives and histories of the LGBTIQA+ generations we are releasing a limited edition range of bandannas printed and sewn in Melbourne(Naarm). The bandannas feature our illustrated maps of Melbourne and have integrated Augmented Reality so that you can retrace Melbourne's queer footprints wherever you are. Modelling each of the bandannas is the voice behind them.
20% of all sales will go directly to the Australian Queer Archives.
